Progress
Our group met yesterday to get our video off the ground. Our overall concept for the video will be a series of video clips and images as the background to our natation of the topic. We discussed some of the images we want to incorperate as well as creating an outline for the information we want to cover. After divying up the information we split up again with plans to regroup in about a week. Hopefully we will all find some good stuff!!

Weinberg: Can technology replace social engineering (Pro technology)

Figured we could use something for technology.
Guy McPherson
Public Health.pdf
Noted Conservation Biologist and social critic rants about end of oil, climate change, and profound social change. Hold on for a depressing ride from a powerful voice.

An article about the varying world views between techno-skeptics and techno-optimists. Costanza gives interesting potential futures for both skeptics and optimists, giving a deeper understanding of each side of the argument.

I found this article online. The author gives some interesting insight into all of the factors that cause skepticism toward technology and food.

Some (hopefully) helpfull resources I have found
Here is what I have found:
An article about the Simon vs. Ehrlich debate. http://www.mnforsustain.org/partridge_e_j_simon_and_perilous_optimism.htm
This article sites a lot of factual information and seems like it would be a good starting point for facts about depleting resources.
An articel by Garret Hardin about lifeboat ethics. http://www.garretthardinsociety.org/articles/art_lifeboat_ethics_case_against_helping_poor.html
An article by Kenneth Boulding about the spaceship earth metaphor. http://www.panarchy.org/boulding/spaceship.1966.html
Also this is the sort of video I had in mind when I posted my last blog about technological failures. I am not sure if we would be allowed to edit the video or not. http://www.archive.org/details/Pa2096Tacoma

An idea!
So I finally had an idea. A very little idea but still. If we are going to be trying to convey a skeptisism for technology perhaps one part of our video could be video clips of a series of technology disasters i.e. things blowing up, falling over, damns breaking, hopefully some famous examples of technological failures that I can't think of right now. This could be the background for a voice over narration about our topic, as an into or something.
